The Chicago Cubs have been playing well throughout the opening month of the season after a terrible stretch. They have been one of the best offensive teams in Major League Baseball, but saw one of their star players leave with an apparent injury. Dansby Swanson, the Cubs' shortstop, was lifted from the game against the San Diego Padres due to a left glute cramp. Swanson had a strong performance earlier in the game, hitting a two-run double and stealing third base during the second inning. He has been hitting at a strong level throughout the season with a .783 OPS, six homers, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored, and two stolen bases. The 32-year-old Swanson has been hitting at a great level with a .304/.370/.565 slashline in his last seven games. The Cubs have played all 30 games of the season without Swanson, and it will be interesting to see what manager Craig Counsell does for tomorrow’s game if there is no other injury.
