A magnitude-7.8 earthquake shook the Philippines on Monday, June 8, causing widespread damage to the island nation. Footage from MotoBabe PH shows frightened children and parents rushing out of Jose Maria College Foundation in Davao City following the tremor. The City Government of Davao announced "classes at all levels, both public and private institutions, and work in all local and national government offices within the city" were suspended on June 8. The city encouraged private offices and institutions to do the same "to ensure the welfare and safety of their employees." According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor hit south of the island of Mindanao, causing significant damage in Davao and General Santos City.
