Recently, users noticed that Polymarket bets were appearing in Google News alongside reputable news sources. However, these results are no longer visible, with Google attributing their appearance to an error. According to Google spokesperson Ned Adriance, "Google News is designed to show sources that create content about current issues, events, and important topics, and we have policies for sites to be eligible to appear. This site briefly appeared in Google News in error, and it is no longer surfacing in News."

The Polymarket bets that appeared in Google News were linked to specific news events, allowing users to bet on outcomes. For example, a search for "will ships transit the strait" returned a Polymarket bet on the number of ships that would be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, positioned below credible sources like The Guardian and Reuters.

Background and Speculation

Initially, there was speculation that Google might be testing Polymarket results as part of an integration with the service. Both Polymarket and Kalshi have been actively pursuing partnerships with journalists and news outlets. It is unclear how Polymarket ended up in Google News results or when it started, although reports of the issue surfaced on social media as early as January.

Google has existing partnerships with Kalshi and Polymarket to bring their data to Google Finance. However, it is unclear whether this deal is related to the appearance of Polymarket results in Google News. Google has been contacted for additional information on the matter.
