Doha, Qatar: Human rights formed a fundamental pillar of the vision of the late Father Amir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and were deeply embedded in Qatar’s modern state-building process, H E Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), has said. Speaking in an interview with Qatar Television following the passing of the Father Amir, Dr. Al Kuwari paid tribute to the late leader’s legacy, describing him as the architect of a modern Qatar whose exceptional vision placed investment in people, comprehensive development and international engagement at the heart of the country’s progress. He explained that the Father Amir’s vision for building the modern Qatari state rested on three major pillars: investing in people, building the nation, and strengthening Qatar’s regional and international presence through comprehensive and sustainable development. According to Dr. Al Kuwari, investment in people was inseparable from the promotion and protection of human rights. He said the late Father Amir regarded human rights as the foundation for developing society, stressing that rights such as the right to life, education, healthcare, work, human dignity and participation in society were essential to empowering individuals and ensuring sustainable national progress. He noted that under the Father Amir’s leadership, Qatari citizens enjoyed broad protection of these fundamental rights, reflecting the state’s commitment to placing human development at the centre of its national agenda. Turning to Qatar’s humanitarian role, Dr. Al Kuwari highlighted the Father Amir’s lasting contributions to international humanitarian causes, particularly his steadfast support for the Palestinian people. He said the late Father Amir left behind a remarkable record of humanitarian initiatives, many of which stand today as enduring testimony to Qatar’s charitable and relief efforts. He pointed to Qatar’s support for humanitarian projects benefiting Palestinians, saying these initiatives reflected the country’s commitment to defending human rights and standing alongside people affected by conflict. Dr. Al Kuwari recalled that the Father Amir became the first Arab leader to visit Gaza during one of its most difficult periods, describing the visit as a powerful demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people and a clear affirmation of Qatar’s unwavering support for their legitimate rights. He stressed that Palestine has always remained Qatar’s foremost cause, saying the late Father Amir never forgot the Palestinian people and that Qatar continues to stand firmly beside them in pursuit of what he described as a just cause rooted in human rights and international justice. Among the humanitarian achievements highlighted by Dr. Al Kuwari was the establishment of The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza.
