Actor Akshay Kumar has responded to the criticism he faced over his look in Samrat Prithviraj (2022), particularly the use of an artificial moustache while portraying the legendary ruler Prithviraj Chauhan. Like right now, I have this beard. I took around six weeks to grow it, and during those six weeks I didn’t work. So it’s not like that,” he said. He further addressed the specific criticism around the moustache used in the film, clarifying that the styling required for the character could not be achieved naturally. “In Samrat Prithviraj , the story required a particular kind of moustache, and that kind of moustache cannot grow naturally on my face. So yes, maybe the fake moustache didn’t look good, maybe a lot of people didn’t like it. But at the end of the day, it’s acting. Growing that exact moustache might not be possible for me. But sometimes you have to do it. And if people didn’t like it, then I am sorry,” he added. The film marked Akshay Kumar’s return to large-scale historical drama and had generated considerable anticipation before release. However, reactions to his physicality, body language and overall screen presence in the role drew varied responses from viewers at the time. On the professional front, the actor is currently seen in Bhooth Bangla , which reunites him with filmmaker Priyadarshan. Released on April 16, the film also features Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.
