Juma Witonze Kisekka Appointed Minister of State for Internal Affairs

Juma Witonze Kisekka has been appointed as the new Minister of State for Internal Affairs, filling a position that had remained vacant following the collapse of Dr. Lawrence Muganga’s nomination during the parliamentary vetting process. The appointment, announced on Monday, adds a new face to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is headed by Minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu. Kisekka’s appointment follows months of waiting after President Museveni’s initial nominee, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, failed to secure parliamentary approval over questions raised during his vetting. Reports in recent days had indicated that Kisekka was being considered as Muganga’s replacement. Witonze is the coordinator of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Greater Masaka Region. The Ministry of Internal Affairs plays a central role in coordinating national internal security policies and supervises key institutions, including the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, and the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA). Kisekka is expected to appear before Parliament’s Appointments’ Commitee before before assuming his new duties. Details about the swearing-in ceremony will follow.
