Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, has celebrated her 38th birthday by announcing the title of her fifth studio album, B**ch, which is set to release on 5 June. In a statement, she explained that reclaiming the word ‘b**ch’ is a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love. The album cover features a manicured hand holding up a cutout of Lizzo in place of a middle finger. Additionally, Lizzo will release the album’s title track, interpolating Meredith Brooks’s 1997 song of the same name, on Friday. She also mentioned upcoming projects, including a children’s book titled Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’ scheduled for September and a role as musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the biopic Rosetta from Amazon MGM Studios.
