Businessman Steven Lowy revealed his family – one of Australia’s most prominent Jewish families – has been targeted with threats and online abuse for decades, as he laid out a plan to impose hefty fines on social media companies and create special police units to combat antisemitism. Lowy gave evidence to the antisemitism royal commission on Monday, the first day of the inquiry’s third block of hearings which began with lived experience witnesses before an examination of social media companies and public broadcasters ABC and SBS.
