The madras high court has dismissed a property-related case that sought ownership rights over land connected to the family of late actress Sridevi. The court ruled that the petition filed before the Chengalpattu court was not maintainable and therefore rejected the case. According to reports, the dispute concerns a property located along the east Coast Road (ECR) near Chennai. The land was reportedly purchased in 1988 by actress Sridevi from members of the Sambandha Mudaliar family. A case was later filed in the Chengalpattu court claiming rights over the property and challenging the ownership associated with Sridevi’s family. The petitioners allegedly sought legal recognition and ownership claims over the land. After hearing the arguments, the madras high court observed that the suit filed before the lower court did not have sufficient legal grounds to proceed. As a result, the high court dismissed the case and effectively put an end to the property ownership challenge raised against Sridevi’s family. The ruling is considered significant because it reaffirms the validity of the long-standing property transaction made decades ago. Sridevi was one of India’s most celebrated actresses, known for her performances in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. She passed away in 2018, leaving behind a remarkable cinematic legacy and a widely discussed family estate. Legal experts note that the judgment highlights the importance of documentary evidence and the limitation period in long-pending property disputes. Courts generally examine whether ownership claims are supported by valid records and whether cases are filed within the legally permissible timeframe. The High Court’s order now provides relief to Sridevi’s family by dismissing the challenge to the ownership of the disputed property.
