Michael Douglas confesses to a secret Hollywood affair he denied for over 40 years

Michael Douglas has revealed he did have an affair with actress Kathleen Turner while filming 1984 movie Romancing the Stone , after the pair spent over four decades denying it. The actor’s confession, which has already prompted a response from Turner, is among the revelations to emerge from his new memoir One Helluva Ride . At the time, Douglas was separated from his then-wife Diandra Douglas , with whom he shares son Cameron. “Kathleen was smart, funny, and sexy with a deep, sultry voice that became her signature,” he wrote. “I instantly liked her, and we were immediately attracted to each other.” Douglas said things at home were in a “bad place” and claimed both he and Diandra were having extramarital affairs at the time. While fans have long speculated something happened between the Romancing the Stone stars, Douglas and Turner repeatedly insisted their famous chemistry remained platonic. “The chemistry I had with Kathleen Turner was so strong, audiences have been certain for years that we were in a relationship together while making the film,” he wrote. Douglas says he and Turner “fell hard” for one another while filming in Mexico. Getty “We both denied it through Romancing The Stone , Jewel of the Nile , War of the Roses , and even while doing press a few years ago for The Kominsky Method .” Their story was that they had been “terrible flirts” who were attracted to one another, but nothing ever happened. “That was a lie,” Douglas admitted. “The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone , Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship.” Douglas said their romance developed naturally from working so closely together, with the pair spending evenings together before he would secretly make his way to Turner’s hotel room. Even co-star Danny DeVito and director Robert Zemeckis apparently had no idea. The relationship ultimately came to an end when Diandra brought Cameron to Mexico during filming. Turner backed away and Douglas eventually returned to his marriage for the sake of his son. Despite their history, the pair remained friends and went on to reunite on The Jewel of the Nile in 1985, The War of the Roses in 1989 and The Kominsky Method decades later. Turner has since addressed the revelation with little fuss. “Good heavens what a fuss about something 40 years ago!” she told People . “I love Michael and I look forward to enjoying the book.” Douglas, who married Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000, said he asked Turner for permission before finally telling their story.
