Posted on: April 29th, 2026 It has been confirmed by various reliable sources that a new theatrical instalment of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre series is in the works at A24. Sources also confirm that up-and-coming genre filmmaker Curry Barker will helm the project, which is described as a “re-imagining” of the 1974 original. Barker is currently receiving attention for his upcoming thriller Obsession. After impressing at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Obsession was picked up by Focus Features, and is set to debut on May 15th. Furthermore, Barker is set to direct, write, and star in Anything but Ghosts, which will also be released via Focus Features in conjunction with Blumhouse Productions. With Barker’s TCM instalment said to be in “very early development,” it is currently unknown what the filmmaker’s version of the classic property will entail. However, it has been confirmed that Barker’s theatrical film will be produced alongside the already announced television series from A24. The television adaption was the first project announced after A24 acquired the TCM property, after a heated bidding war. The project will be produced by actor Glen Powell under his Barnstorm Productions label, and is conceived by Strange Darling filmmaker J.T. Mollner. So, after four years of silence, it appears Texas Chain Saw Massacre has re-emerged firing on all cylinders. With the cream of upcoming genre faces aboard, and two projects in development, there’s never been a better time to be a Texas Chain Saw fan.
