The Beatles bassist, Paul McCartney shared his experience when he collaborated with The Rolling Stones on the song "Covered In You" as part of the album "Foreign Tongues" which will be released in July. This collaboration is the second moment for McCartney to be involved in The Rolling Stones' recording project, after previously contributing his bass playing through the song "Bite My Head Off" in the album "Hackney Diamonds" which was released in 2023. The 83-year-old musician said he was not used to working as a session player. Therefore, the opportunity to record a song with The Beatles' biggest rival in the 1960s gave a very different and thrilling sensation. "It was great to just come into the studio with a bass and just say, 'Well, where do you need me?' You start playing, they show you the song, and I start thinking, 'I'm playing with The Stones.'" said McCartney, quoted by NME, Tuesday, June 2. McCartney added that he was very happy because the magical sensation did not disappear even though he had been a great musician for more than six decades. He chose to enjoy his admiration instead of being ordinary. "I'm so happy! You could have been a little nonchalant and said, 'Yeah, okay, so why?' But for me it wasn't so - it was the opposite. It felt like, 'Wow, there's Mick! Ooh, there's Keith! Woah, there's Ronnie!' It was so fun. Something extraordinary because all I had to do was play bass and not make mistakes, so that was good," he said. In addition to filling the bass part, the moment was very memorable for McCartney because he could witness Jagger, Richards, and Wood's creative kitchen while composing the architecture of the song "Covered In You". "I could hear Keith as we did some recording takes, practicing his guitar lick that eventually went into the album, then Ronnie practicing his solo, and Mick perfecting his vocals," said the Liverpool-born musician. "So yeah, I went home that day and said to everyone, 'I just played with The Stones!' I'm glad I didn't take it for granted. It was so much fun. Not everyone gets to play with The Stones," he added. On the other hand, the story of this collaboration comes at the same time as the release of Paul McCartney's 20th solo album, "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane" on May 29 via Capitol Records. Through his new album, McCartney takes an emotional trip down memory lane to his childhood in Liverpool, the resilience of his parents, to the secret code he shared with the late John Lennon.
