Profits of China's major industrial firms rose by 18.8 per cent year on year (YoY) between January and May this year, surpassing a rise of 18.2 per cent in the first four months, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Industrial firms with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan (~$2.93 million) saw their combined profits reach 3.14 trillion yuan in the five-month period, a state-controlled news agency reported. In May alone, profits of such firms rose by 21.1 per cent YoY.
