Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Ranabaali’ aims to explore the lives of historical warriors who stood up for their people during difficult times. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan and featuring Rashmika Mandanna as Jayamma, the film is being produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting it. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16. Speaking about the inspiration behind the story, Vijay explained how folk traditions helped preserve the memories of warriors whose contributions were not widely documented in mainstream historical accounts. He said, “Our history has many great warriors who stood up for their people. Many of these warriors died in their thirties. They are the inspiration behind ‘Ranabaali’.” “Their stories reached people through folk songs that kept their memories alive, and later, some Indian writers documented them in books. Through ‘Ranabaali’, we are bringing to the big screen, for audiences across the world, the greatness of these warriors, the atrocities our ancestors endured, the mistakes we made as a society, and how the British managed to take control of this vast country,” Vijay said. The actor also spoke about the role of culture and collective beliefs in helping communities remain united through difficult circumstances. He recalled how people turned to village deities and jatara festivals during famines, hoping for better times ahead. Vijay believes these traditions, along with folk songs and stories passed down through generations, are important parts of the country’s historical memory. Through ‘Ranabaali’, the team hopes to bring these stories to a wider audience and encourage conversations about the past. About the author Written by nymisha View all posts
