Date: July 20, 2026 Staff Reporter THE 44th Joint Meeting of SADC Ministers Responsible for Energy and Water has reaffirmed the region’s commitment to accelerating energy and water infrastructure development to drive regional integration, industrialisation and sustainable development. Held in a hybrid format and hosted by South Africa on 17 July 2026, the meeting was officially opened by South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. It was co-chaired by Dr Ramokgopa and South Africa’s Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina. Ministers reviewed progress on key regional initiatives, including strategic electricity interconnectors, renewable energy programmes, transboundary water management, climate-resilient infrastructure and financing mechanisms. They emphasised the need to fast-track priority projects to support industrial growth and ensure reliable access to energy and water for SADC citizens. The discussions focused on strengthening energy security, promoting sustainable water resource management and improving livelihoods across Southern Africa.
