Seasonally-adjusted US PPI for final demand up 1.4 % in April

The seasonally-adjusted US producer price index (PPI) for final demand increased by 1.4 per cent in April this year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Final demand prices advanced by 0.7 per cent in March and by 0.6 per cent in February. The April increase is the largest advance since rising by 1.7 per cent in March 2022. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand rose by 6 per cent for the 12 months ended in April, the largest 12-month increase since moving up by 6.4 per cent in December 2022. Nearly 60 per cent of the April rise in final demand prices can be attributed to a 1.2-per cent advance in the index for final demand services. Prices for final demand goods moved up by 2 per cent in April after rising by 1.9 per cent in March. The index for final demand less foods, energy and trade services increased by 0.6 per cent in April—the largest advance since rising by 0.6 per cent in October 2025. For the 12 months ended in April, prices for final demand less foods, energy and trade services moved up by 4.4 per cent, the largest 12-month increase since jumping by 4.5 per cent in February 2023, a BLS release said. Over 40 per cent of the April advance in prices for final demand goods can be attributed to a 15.6-per cent increase in the index for gasoline.
