Logo text Shane Gillis returned for his third Saturday Night Live hosting stint, where he revealed the nickname Joe Rogan and Theo Von came up for him (“gas station egg”) and his gripes with his “Adolf Hitler haircut.” The comedian started his monologue by talking about how he wanted to lose weight: “I gotta lose weight. It’s a bummer, you know what I mean? When you finally get so fat, you’re like, alright, hit that fat rock bottom.” Gillis shared a story about how hiking wasn’t for him, and then explained his contention with public gyms. “Going to the public gym as a fat guy, especially in New York, is a nightmare, dude. It’s just the hottest gay guys you’ve ever seen. They’re jacked and they look at me, like, ‘Yeah, right.’ ‘I know, dude,’” he said. “Also, I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now,” Gillis said. “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial vape-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look!” Gillis then raved about Rogan’s own gym that is equipped with a sauna. He said, “The other day I was in the sauna, I’m sitting there, I’m by myself, no one’s around, so I figured I’ll get comfortable. I take my shirt off, I’m in my underwear. About five minutes in, there’s a knock on the glass door of the sauna that scared me. I thought I was alone. I look over and it was Theo Von and Joe, and they opened the door, and Joe just goes, ‘Hey, Theo said you looked like a gas station egg.'” “The thing that hurt the most was when he closed the glass door, I saw my own reflection and I looked exactly like a gas station egg,” he added. “That’s one of the meanest things anyone’s told me: ‘You look like a wet, bagged, hard boiled egg.'” Gillis said he was used to receiving insults growing up having two older sisters, who he called “big, fat-bitch sisters.” He went on to note that “the thing that I’m really bothered by is I’ve balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut.” He added, “And it’s not good, because I give a lot of speeches and the front falls down a lot, and there’s no way to adjust it without looking exactly like [Hitler]. It’s the only way. I’m not going to [move it], that’s gay. That’s it: You’re either gay or you’re Hitler, and isn’t that where we’re at as a country?” Later in the episode, Gillis accidentally said the F-word live on-air during a Dr. Seuss sketch where his character was stressing that his father didn’t want to eat green eggs and ham. “Bro, it’s a non-starter. He said he doesn’t fucking,” Gillis said, catching himself swiftly, continuing, “Jeez! Like ’em.” At the end of the night, the comedian seemingly apologized for the slip-up. “Sorry about earlier,” Gillis said during his final remarks to close out the show. SNL ’s cold open got the episode started with a greeting from Colin Jost’s Pete Hegseth welcoming the USS Abraham Lincoln home after being deployed for over 300 days. “After seven months of war, you’re back home safe in sunny San Diego, which the president just asked Iran to blow up. I couldn’t be more proud of you,” he said. “Only eight of you attempted suicide, two of you since I started talking. You executed over 3,000 combat missions and you did it with zero casualties, zero flight mishaps, and zero working toilets.” This week, President Trump defended the Iran war at a campaign rally in Nebraska, calling it a “small price to pay for keeping the world safe” and “keeping our country safe.” He then said Iran could “take out” a city in the United States if a nuclear weapon was developed. “Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,” Trump said. Elsewhere in the skit, Jost’s Hegseth pointed out the Department of War’s new logo. “I also unveiled a new logo for the Department of War. Yeah, pretty sick, right?” “Sorry, is that a Nazi eagle?” a sailor asked, prompting him to respond, “It’s an American eagle with a Nazi vibe.” Saturday night’s episode marked Gillis’ third time hosting SNL ; he made his debut in February 2024, and returned again in March 2025. He notoriously was cast as a featured player and quickly fired when a video resurfaced of him using a racial slur. Rosalia was the night’s musical guest, marking her second time on the show. So far on season 52, Jalen Brunson and Dakota Johnson have hosted the late night series. After Gillis, Inde Navarrette will next made her hosting debut for the special Halloween episode, alongside Gracie Abrams as musical guest.
