WMNF Song of the Day exists to promote new, live, and local music. Every weekday, SOTD brings you a new song and information about upcoming events. You can help WMNF by contributing to the WMNF Summer Fund Drive . The WMNF Song of the Day for June 2, 2026 is “Blue Morpho” by Ed O’Brien. Born in Ireland and raised in England, Ed O’Brien has long been known as the humble yet essential guitarist of Radiohead, attending school alongside the future members before helping shape one of modern music’s most influential sounds. Described by Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke as “possibly the most underrated guitarist in rock,” O’Brien has always styled himself as a player “who knows when not to play”, preferring to collaborate and highlight emotion over excess. His latest project, named after a species of butterfly, Blue Morpho, is an ethereal and hypnotic spiritual experience — a well-planned yet gently guided musical voyage born from reflection, healing, and experimentation in the Welsh countryside. The album is accompanied by Blue Morpho:Three-Act Play, a short film that premiered at South by Southwest. Drawing inspiration from earlier artists as varied as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Adam and the Ants, David Bowie, and even the jam band Phish! O’Brien continues evolving beyond the shadow of Radiohead.
