STMicroelectronics introduces VD55G4 (monochrome) and VD65G4 (RGB color) ultralow-power global-shutter image sensors as part of the ST BrightSense portfolio. These sensors enable always-on vision in compact devices like wearables, AR/VR/XR headsets, smart home appliances, and medical devices. They consume up to 10x less power than conventional sensors, using an event-driven architecture to wake the processor only when needed. The sensors support high-quality capture, low power consumption, and AI-ready data, fitting into tiny designs with microcontroller interfaces. Applications include glance detection, presence sensing, and spatial awareness in AR/VR headsets, while reducing cloud dependency in IoT and medical devices. The VD55G4 and VD65G4 are produced using a 300 mm wafer 3D-stacked 65 nm/40 nm architecture and come with a companion ecosystem of development boards, camera modules, and software resources. STMicroelectronics emphasizes their role in extending battery life and enabling edge AI in everyday devices.
