HYDERABAD: Telangana has emerged as one of India’s best-performing state economies, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Handbook of Statistics on the Indian Economy 2025-26. The latest data shows strong economic growth and a rise of more than 10% in the state’s per capita income. The RBI said Telangana’s Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) at current prices increased to ₹16,14,771 crore in 2025-26 from ₹14,57,913 crore in 2024-25. Over the past five years, the state’s economy has expanded steadily. It has grown from ₹10,17,251 crore in 2021-22. Telangana ranks second in per capita income Telangana’s per capita NSDP at current prices rose to ₹4,18,931 in 2025-26 from ₹3,80,031 a year earlier. That is an increase of nearly ₹38,900 in just one year. Back in 2021-22, the figure stood at ₹2,69,000. Among major states, Telangana ranked second in per capita income. Karnataka topped the list with ₹4,33,326. Tamil Nadu followed with ₹4,08,027. Telangana also remained ahead of Gujarat (₹3,57,531), Maharashtra (₹3,47,903) and Andhra Pradesh (₹2,94,507). Meanwhile, Telangana ranked seventh among major states in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). The state’s economy was valued at ₹16,14,771 crore. Maharashtra led the country with ₹44,84,537 crore. It was followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal and Rajasthan. According to the RBI, Telangana continues to perform better than several larger states on income indicators. Steady industrial growth, expansion of the services sector and higher productivity supported this performance. CM credits reforms for progress Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy welcomed the RBI findings. In a post on X on Saturday, he said Telangana had reached new heights after the Congress government assumed office in December 2023. He highlighted the nearly ₹38,900 increase in per capita income during the past year. According to the Chief Minister, the government’s focus on investment, employment, balanced development and policy-driven governance helped improve the state’s economy. Additionally, he said regular reviews, attention to detail and continuous engagement with stakeholders strengthened economic growth. The Chief Minister also said the government had reversed what he described as a decade of poor governance under the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government. Finally, he said women, farmers and young people were the biggest beneficiaries of Telangana’s economic progress. He expressed confidence that the state would continue to achieve stronger growth in the years ahead.
