Oxford Economics was commissioned by TikTok to evaluate the economic impact of TikTok Shop in Germany after its March 2025 launch. TikTok Shop is a new e-commerce model, transforming TikTok from an entertainment platform into an integrated commerce channel called ‘Discovery E-Commerce,’ merging entertainment, community, and online retail. The study, based on input-output modeling and user/business surveys, analyzes the economic contribution of TikTok Shop in Germany over its first nine months. The platform has seen rapid growth: over 25,000 local businesses are active, and daily revenues have doubled in six months. In 2025, TikTok Shop supported gross value added of nearly €80 million and around 910 jobs. Supply-chain effects show every euro of direct value added supports an additional €2.3 across Germany. Economic impacts are distributed broadly, with direct effects concentrated in larger federal states but value creation and employment spread nationwide. The analysis highlights the platform’s role in reshaping Germany’s commerce ecosystem.
