Described by The Guardian as “brilliant, compelling TV” and a “career best for Florence Pugh” by The A.V Club , Netflix ’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel East Of Eden has gone down a storm with critics and audiences alike . The seven-part series was created by Zoe Kazan, who has a personal connection to the source material, as her grandfather directed the 1955 film adaptation of the story. Speaking to Variety , she shared: “I read this book when I was 15, and I do ask myself: Did this book hit me hard because I was already thinking about these questions of what you carry from your family’s past, and what you do with that going forward? “Or did I read this book and learn how to think about those things from it? This is one of the books that made me who I am.” Her passion paid off, and the miniseries has been a huge hit, hovering around the top of Netflix’s most-watched chart since the show was released in September. Naturally, this left many viewers wondering if there could be more episodes on the cards... Will there be a season 2 of East Of Eden on Netflix? A second season of East Of Eden seems unlikely, as the show has been billed as a miniseries, and covers almost all of the main story of the source novel. Fortunately, fans of Zoe’s work won’t have long to wait for her next adaptation... Florence Pugh in Netflix's East of Eden Netflix Zoe Kazan already has her next project with Netflix lined up after East Of Eden The next book Zoe and her co-showrunner Jeb Stuart will adapt is the epic Western novel Lonesome Dove by the American author Larry McMurtry. Back in September, Netflix said: “The epic drama follows Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call, retired Texas Rangers who embark on one final, perilous cattle drive from the Rio Grande to the untamed wilderness of Montana. “Packed with unrequited longing, unbreakable friendship, brutal frontier justice, and an unwavering pursuit of a meaningful life, the sweeping odyssey treks across the American West of the 19th century — and introduces an unforgettable cast of characters along the way.” In a joint press release, Zoe and Jeb enthused: “After our singular experience on East Of Eden , we are thrilled to be teaming with Netflix again, along with Teton Ridge Entertainment, to bring Larry McMurtry’s western classic to life, “We come to this material with love and respect, and can’t wait to hit the trail with Gus and Call and the rest of these beloved characters.” Zoe Kazan and Florence Pugh at the premiere of East Of Eden last week via Associated Press Zoe also shared her new-found love for Lonesome Dove in her Variety interview, revealing: “When I got back to the States [from New Zealand after shooting Esat Of Eden], I started reading Lonesome Dove,” and it totally blew my mind. I think like all great Westerns, it’s a rumination on death and how we make meaning of our lives in the face of our certain mortality. “I’m also just really drawn to these stories of a moment in time when everything is changing, the way that it was at the turn of the century here, and the way that it was in the West in the 1870s.” East of Eden is now streaming on Netflix.
