TikTok slashes content moderation teams globally; Singapore among markets affected

TikTok has slashed roles in content moderation teams globally, with Singapore affected by the job cuts. In Asia, Singapore and Indonesia saw layoffs on Wednesday (Jul 1). The decision to cut roles in the city-state was part of a reorganisation to strengthen TikTok’s operating model for trust and safety. The company did not disclose how many roles were affected by the cuts. “We are continuing a reorganisation to strengthen our global operating model for trust and safety, including centralising portions of our workforce within key operating hubs and evolving the way we work to ensure teams remain scalable and agile, while advancing platform safety through the latest technological innovations,” said a TikTok spokesperson. Over in Indonesia, the layoffs were about realigning the R&D organisation to drive long-term sustainable growth. Outside of Asia, TikTok appears to be considering cutting 300 jobs at its European hub in Dublin, reported Bloomberg. The Business Times understands that TikTok will provide affected employees support according to local laws and regulations.
