The case was registered at Gamdevi police station under Sections 223, 126(2), 189(2), 189(3) and 189(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Tushar Gandhi, Shailendra Kamble, Prakash Reddy and Imran Khan are among the 12 named accused, the officer said. More than 500 police personnel were deployed along with riot control police unit near the protest site. Police barricaded roads leading to the maidan on October 10, 2026 and prevented protesters from reaching the ground. Those arriving near Nana Chowk were detained and taken to police stations. Mr. Gandhi was detained in Bandra while heading to the gathering and taken to D.N. Nagar police station. “Around 600 protesters were detained across Mumbai city. They have also been released. Further legal process is going on,” Ms. Ragasudha said. The protest was organised by Hum Bharat Ke Log , a civil group led by Tushar Gandhi, in solidarity with Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Left groups’ protest in Delhi, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and others.
