Secret Service 9pm, ITV1 Gemma Arterton stars as MI6 officer Kate Henderson in a tense, ambitious espionage thriller. Henderson heads the Russia desk and is disturbed by evidence suggesting the presence of a mole in the government. It soon looks as if she might not know the half of it. Cue twists galore as Henderson’s job and family life become dangerously intertwined. Phil Harrison Great Japanese Railway Journeys 6.30pm, BBC Two A Shinkansen bullet train hurtles Michael Portillo to the “mega metropolis” of Tokyo. We meet Minoru Mukaiya, composer of 300 catchy jingles for train station platforms, and ride the elevator to the top of the 630 metre-high, earthquake-proof Tokyo Skytree: “This technology just leaves me breathless.” Ali Catterall Mint 9pm, BBC One Charlotte Regan’s Romeo and Juliet remix set amid warring crime families in Scotland is earthy, formally inventive and – crucially – deeply heartfelt. This double bill sees everyone donning sharp suits and elaborate hats for a fractious day at the races before star-crossed lovers Shannon and Arran peel off at a gallop. Graeme Virtue Virgin Island Intimacy anxieties rise to the surface on Virgin Island. Photograph: Channel 4 9pm, Channel 4 Exploitative TV that encourages viewers to gawp at people’s sexual problems? Or a groundbreaking attempt to help those with intimacy issues? This reality show blurs the line as it returns for a second season of young adults undressing and having “therapies” that involve being sexually stimulated on camera. Not for the easily shocked. Alexi Duggins Euphoria 9pm, Sky Atlantic Weddings bring out plenty of drama and Cassie and Nate’s nuptials are no exception – it’s a great opportunity to bring the gang back together for a set-piece event. Backstabbing, gossip and generally appalling behaviour are the order of the day as family and friends find themselves on a collision course. PH Rooster 10pm, Sky One Good news for fans of Steve Carell’s campus comedy: it has been renewed for a second season. But flailing author Greg still has to navigate the rest of the semester as writer-in-residence. His lecturer daughter, Katie, remains in an emotional funk while student Tommy wants to drop out. GV
