UPND asks court to dismiss petition challenging HH’s candidature – Zambia

UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda and President Hakainde Hichilema have asked the Constitutional Court to dismiss a petition challenging the Head of State’s eligibility to contest the August general election. Imenda and President Hichilema say that the petition was an abuse of the court process arguing that the petition raises issues already before another court. In this matter, the petitioner, Charles Longwe, has dragged UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda, President Hichilema, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the Registrar of Societies and the Attorney General to court, seeking a declaration that both the nomination of President Hichilema and the acceptance of his candidature by the ECZ were unconstitutional, unlawful and void.
