Elmer Rodriguez, a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher, made his MLB debut on Wednesday in the Yankees’ series finale loss to the Rangers. Despite a mixed performance, he issued seven free passes over his first four Triple-A outings this season. Rodriguez walked four batters and hit another in four innings, working through four up-and-down innings. He managed a clean opening inning with two walks, escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, and retired the next six batters. However, Texas exploited his shakiness in the fifth inning, scoring two runs after he walked the leadoff batter and gave up back-to-back singles. Rodriguez was pulled after this, and Brent Headrick took over, allowing just two runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. While Rodriguez was not as sharp as usual, Aaron Boone, the Yankees’ skipper, noted that he saw good aspects of his performance. "There was a lot of good," Boone said. "We saw his stuff play, I thought his mix and spinning it was good, just a little better on the strike-throwing part and it’s a better line, but he still kept us in the game and gave us a chance." Rodriguez acknowledged room for improvement, stating he could’ve executed better and will focus on learning from his mistakes moving forward. He expressed that it was a valuable experience being in MLB, emphasizing growth from both successes and challenges. "It’s a good experience being here," he said. "Obviously it’s my first time around, now I’m just trying to learn from all of the good and the bad and just go forward and continue to work."
