In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, she revealed that she faced physical abuse during her marriage to Hyder Ali Khan, Aamir Khan’s stepbrother, and shared insights into his current condition. Eva shared that she met Hyder through a mutual friend, and after just 18 days of dating, he proposed to her. Due to her mother’s disapproval, they decided to elope and got married in 2000. She recounted that on the third day of their marriage, Hyder physically assaulted her during an intimate moment, leaving her with bruises and emotional trauma. Eva explained that his suspicion and paranoia increased over time, often imagining situations that weren’t real, and that excessive alcohol consumption worsened his mental health. Despite enduring violence for five years, Eva tried to save the marriage, but after the birth of their daughter, she initiated divorce proceedings and returned to her mother’s house. Eva mentioned that Aamir Khan was aware of her struggles. She said, “I had heard that Aamir sir had said I hadn’t taken the right decision. That message reached me before my marriage through other sources, but I ignored it. Aamir Khan didn’t want any relationship with this family. When Tahir Abbu was in his last days, he took him to Pune and kept him there. Even my former mother-in-law, whom Tahir Hussain loved, was not allowed to meet him.” Despite everything, Eva expressed sympathy for Hyder, stating that he is now living in difficult circumstances. She said, “Today, Hyder is not in a good condition. He has no house and struggles even for food. Sometimes, someone lets him stay in a chawl, sometimes a friend helps him. I feel sad. Whatever happened, happened, but from a humanitarian point of view, he was once my husband. He is surrounded by people who keep giving him alcohol. There is no one to look after him.
