Published 2:15 pm Friday, April 17, 2026 There will be one less option for those travelling to Toronto out of Yellowknife in the coming weeks. Air Canada announced today that the Yellowknife-to-Toronto route will be suspended as of Aug. 30. It’s one of six routes that the airline will be stopping. In a statement issued Friday , the airline indicated that “jet fuel prices have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict,” and that’s affecting the profitability on some routes. Those routes have been declared “no longer economically feasible,” the airline added. In response to questions to the airline from NNSL Media about the end of the flights, a spokesperson stated that the route, which was launched in 2023, never reached profitability. “Any affected customers will be contacted with travel options, including being rebooked onto alternate flights,” added the spokesperson. The route operates three times per week out of Yellowknife Airport. In a public notice published in Friday’s edition of Yellowknifer, the airline indicated that flights from Yellowknife to both Edmonton and Vancouver will remain operational year-round. The spokesperson added that the airline plans on keeping 85 per cent of its scheduled flights to the NWT operational.
