State Sen. Aisha Wahab, D-Hayward, led in early results from Tuesday's special election to fill the remaining term of California's 14th Congressional District seat, previously held by Eric Swalwell. Wahab received 32,149 votes (51.35%), while Melissa Hernandez, a BART board director and former Dublin mayor, received 30,457 votes (48.65%). This runoff follows a June 16 special election where Wahab secured 43% of the vote and Hernandez 17%. Swalwell resigned in April amid sexual assault allegations, though he has denied them. The Alameda County Registrar of Voters will release more results on Friday, August 26, and August 28. Wahab and Hernandez will also compete in a November runoff for the full two-year term representing District 14, which includes Hayward, Pleasanton, Livermore, Union City, Castro Valley, and parts of Dublin and Fremont.
