Swedish melodic death metal legends Amon Amarth have announced their 13th studio album, The Allfather Awakens, arriving October 2nd via Metal Blade Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled the album’s thunderous lead single, “Gjallarhorn,” accompanied by an official music video. After more than three decades of bringing Viking history and Norse mythology to life through towering riffs and cinematic storytelling, Amon Amarth return with a ten-track collection inspired by conflict, sacrifice, and the enduring legacy of Odin. While the Allfather once again serves as the central inspiration, The Allfather Awakens is not a concept album, but rather a series of epic tales drawn from history and mythology. Following the band’s recent acoustic offering, “Upphaf,” “Gjallarhorn” marks a dramatic return to the soaring melodies, driving riffs, and battle-ready anthems that have made Amon Amarth one of metal’s most enduring acts. The song tells the story of Odin’s sacrifice at Mímisbrunnr—the Well of Wisdom—where he gave up one of his eyes in exchange for unparalleled knowledge and foresight. Unlike previous releases, Amon Amarth wrote and recorded The Allfather Awakens in stages while actively touring. Sessions took place at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark across 2025 and early 2026, with the band focusing on completing one song at a time before moving to the next. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen explains: “We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible.” The process also saw the band shift toward a more classic guitar tone by returning to Marshall amplifiers. The album artwork once again comes from longtime collaborator Tom Thiel, whose striking depiction of Odin continues his long-running visual partnership with the band. Fans will have plenty of options when The Allfather Awakens arrives on October 2nd. The release will be available across numerous CD, vinyl, cassette, and digital editions, including deluxe packages featuring bonus live recordings, signed artwork, exclusive liquid-filled vinyl variants, and retailer-exclusive colour pressings. To celebrate the release, Amon Amarth will embark on a massive UK and European headline tour beginning in October, bringing an all-new stage production inspired by Odin’s legendary Golden Hall. The trek includes stops in Manchester, London, Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, and many more. The Allfather Awakens Track Listing: 1. Gjallarhorn 2.
