Aughinish Alumina report leaves Ireland’s reputation in ruins

Sir, – Minister of State and Limerick TD Niall Collins suggested the Government report found no proof either way of aluminium exports being used for Russian arms manufacture, so carry on. Yet Sweden and Finland have said the Russian smelter’s biggest customer is Rusal, which owns Aughinish Alumina and who supplies the Russian military. How predictable our inquiry would leave us room for denial. Our reputation as a caring nation has been trashed.
