John Stamos has shared an emotional message regarding the health of his longtime friend, Beach Boys frontman Mike Love. The band played its first public concert in three months Saturday in Cincinnati, following a series of delays and cancellations after 85-year-old Love said he needed to “recharge” amid the Beach Boys reunion tour. Stamos, who has performed as a guest with the group since the Eighties , addressed the crowd before the show and told them that Love “has been going through some health issues,” but he insisted on doing the show. Stamos then walked Love onto the stage, where he sat and remained for the rest of the performance. The Full House actor, 63, confirmed in an Instagram post Sunday that he would be in attendance for the night’s concert in Nashville and assured fans that Love planned to take the stage despite his health problems. “I’m boarding a plane to Nashville to play with the Beach Boys at the Ryman Auditorium, struggling to put my feelings into words,” Stamos wrote in the post. “My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges. We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight.” John Stamos shared an emotional message about his friendship with Beach Boys frontman Mike Love (Getty) “Mike is a fighter. Despite doctors, family and friends urging him to focus on his health, he insists on being on stage. He says he needs his band, the audience, his friends and drummer surrounding him to lift him up,” he continued. Stamos went on to note that he has played music with Love for 41 years. “I never imagined how deeply it would affect me to see someone larger than life face something so human and fragile,” he wrote. “The Mike Love we see tonight may not be exactly the Mike we’ve always known. But he’s still every bit the Mike we love. His lyrics, optimism, unforgettable hooks, and more than 7,000 concerts have brought joy to generations. What he’s given me personally is immeasurable,” Stamos said. Stamos went on to say that Love has become a huge part of his life and taught him lessons about connecting with an audience. “He’s made me a better musician, entertainer and man,” the actor said. “This life with Mike and the Beach Boys has become part of my identity. I’ve felt entrusted with being a steward of this extraordinary music, carrying it to new generations.” He went on to share his wish to be “completely present,” sharing the stage at the Nashville concert with Love. “Maybe the hardest part of loving someone is becoming so accustomed to the miracle of having them there that you forget it’s a miracle at all,” Stamos wrote. “Tonight, I won’t forget. I want to cherish every second without feeling those seconds slipping away. That’s what I’m giving him. We don’t know what tomorrow brings. But we have tonight.”
