NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 17 — Kenya’s health reform agenda moves into the spotlight tomorrow as more than 5,000 delegates converge at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for the Kenya Health Summit 2026. The August 18–19 summit, under the theme “Reforms Delivered, Health as a Right,” will focus on healthcare delivery improvements, including access to healthcare, health financing, primary healthcare, the health workforce, medicines, digital health, and accountability. The event is convened by the Ministry of Health as a national platform to assess progress and challenges in health reforms over the past three and a half years. Key discussions will include the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and strengthening primary healthcare networks toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The summit will bring together national and county government leaders, health-sector agencies, development partners, private-sector players, professional associations, innovators, and frontline healthcare workers. President William Ruto and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale are expected to preside. A central focus will be evaluating whether reforms translate into affordable, accessible, and reliable healthcare services for citizens. The summit will also address health financing pressures, workforce concerns, disparities between counties, and innovations in digital health and artificial intelligence. Healthcare workers and professional bodies will provide frontline perspectives on staffing, working conditions, and facility capacity. The event aims to culminate in a Joint Compact and Communiqué outlining priority actions for implementation beyond the summit.
