Kenya tourist helicopter crash kills 7

Seven people, including five Americans and Ecuador’s intelligence head Michele Sensi-Contugi, were killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya’s Samburu county on Wednesday. The aircraft was flying to the Loisaba Conservancy, a wildlife reserve and safari destination in northern Kenya, when it crashed. All seven—six passengers and one pilot—were killed, according to authorities. A State Department spokesperson confirmed five Americans among the dead, while Ecuador’s presidential office confirmed the deaths of Sensi-Contugi and his wife Stephany Hollihan, who held US citizenship. The preliminary police report listed them as tourists. Luxury tour agency &Beyond, which organized the excursion, stated the cause of the crash was still undetermined. The Kenya Red Cross reported that search and recovery efforts were hindered by difficult terrain and a fire at the crash site.
