Miss Grand USA revokes winner’s title amid hit-and-run felony charges

Miss Grand USA has revoked Mekyla Li’s title just one week after her victory, citing ongoing felony hit-and-run charges. On August 19, the organization announced Li’s removal from the 'Miss Grand USA Title and all associated duties,' citing contractual policies. The pageant emphasized respectful dialogue, rejecting bullying and harassment. Li faces two felony hit-and-run charges: one involving non-serious injury and another involving permanent serious injury, stemming from her November 24, 2024 arrest. She pleaded not guilty at her March 19 arraignment. A civil lawsuit involves Li and Michael Schobey, alleging negligence, intoxicated driving, and reckless driving. The incident occurred on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, where Li and Schobey allegedly struck Anna Mercedes Aoun, who claims 'catastrophic injuries' and seeks compensation. Li’s replacement, Victoria Oluwakotanmi, has been announced for the 2026 title. The Miss Grand International 14th edition is scheduled for October 14 in India, with Angelica Lopez competing for the Philippines' third crown.
