In a surprise move, Harry, the youngest son of King Charles III, and his wife Meghan plan to leave the United States by the end of the month to settle in a private, non-royal residence outside London. The Telegraph reported that their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, had already been enrolled in a British school for the start of the school year in early September. The couple had already chosen a new house but would not be living in a royal residence. Harry and Meghan left Britain for North America in 2020 amid a bitter feud with their family, which intensified after Harry published his tell-all memoir, *Spare*. A no-holds-barred interview with Oprah Winfrey further deepened the rift. The Press Association reported that King Charles had been informed on Sunday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex planned to return to live in the UK. The monarch welcomed the opportunity to see more of the family but stated there would be no change in their status, and they would still not be working royals. Harry has expressed concerns about safety in the UK after losing a court battle over government-funded police protection. He stated last year that it was impossible to bring his family back safely. The Home Office responded that Britain's protective security system is rigorous and proportionate, with decisions made by a committee including the Home Office, Metropolitan Police, and the royal household. The news comes after Harry and Meghan visited the UK with their children in early July, where they had a private meeting with King Charles. Harry has expressed a desire to reconcile with his father, who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and has been receiving treatment. It was unclear whether Prince William and Catherine had been informed of the return. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams noted this as an 'extraordinary development,' suggesting the couple's struggles in the US may have influenced their decision. Despite a $100 million Netflix deal in 2020, many of their projects have struggled to gain audience traction. Their new deal with Netflix in 2025 was described as a 'multi-year, first look deal,' less lucrative than the previous one. The Sun newspaper reported that the couple would keep their Montecito home in California and a house in Portugal. Earlier, there were setbacks regarding Harry’s July trip, with media reports suggesting he might stay at Buckingham Palace, which was later denied by palace officials. This return follows the British tabloids' 'Megxit' label for their departure. Additionally, Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, revealed he was writing a book about his sister’s life, titled *Swan Song: Diana, My Sister*, to be published on September 22 in Britain and other countries, translated into 12 languages. Spencer has remained close to Harry and Meghan, and the couple reportedly visited his ancestral home at Althorp in early July, where they visited Diana’s grave.
