Princess of Wales' sister's estate told to tear up Kintbury car park

The Princess of Wales' sister, Pippa, and her husband James Matthews own Barton Court Estate in Kintbury, West Berkshire. They were told to remove a car park built west of Station Road, which was intended to aid estate management and support anglers near the River Kennet. West Berkshire Council refused retrospective planning permission in February, citing concerns over the car park's impact on the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and rural character. A Planning Inspectorate appeal was rejected, with Inspector Alexander O'Doherty stating the car park introduced a visually intrusive and urbanised feature, eroding the open and undeveloped rural character of the area. A public footpath inquiry through the estate is expected to conclude soon.
