A producer drawn into the legal row between Charlotte MacInnes and Rebel Wilson has given evidence. The producer, Greer Simpkin, stated she was in a 'tricky situation' between Wilson and her other boss, Amanda Ghost, after MacInnes sued Wilson for defamation. MacInnes claims she was defamed by Wilson in social media posts suggesting she is a liar and a sellout who withdrew a sexual harassment complaint to advance her career. The posts alleged MacInnes initially reported feeling uncomfortable when the film's co-producer Amanda Ghost asked to share a shower and bath together, but later recanted this claim. The incident hinged on a medical episode Ghost suffered at Bondi Beach in September 2023, where she shared a bath with MacInnes in swimwear to warm up. Neither Ghost nor a witness had concerns about the incident. Wilson gave evidence she was shocked by the disclosure and spoke about it with Simpkin, who described her as responsible. Simpkin later told the Federal Court she hadn’t discussed the incident with Wilson until days later. She said she would have acted earlier if she had known MacInnes felt uncomfortable. Simpkin orchestrated MacInnes' removal from an apartment shared with Ghost and another woman during pre-production, citing Wilson needing the beach space. She met with MacInnes' agent to ensure the actor was alright and revealed the real reason for the eviction. The agent reported to clarify MacInnes had never been uncomfortable around Ghost, whom she idolized. Simpkin forwarded this email to Ghost, noting discrepancies in recollections. She said she didn’t know what 'fudging' meant but recalled differences in the recollections. Simpkin insisted she didn’t misunderstand MacInnes' disclosure and considered the matter closed. She was surprised when Wilson re-agitated the complaint the following month. Wilson has rejected accusations of fabricating the complaint or using it for leverage, stating MacInnes 'flip-flopped' and changed her story for career incentives, including a lead role and a record deal.
