If you're a fan of The Outset 's Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum, or my personal favorite, the Lip Oasis (shade Dune is my go-to for the perfect pinky-nude lip), it may be time to say goodbye. Scarlett Johansson's skincare brand announced on its website Monday, Sept. 28, that it is winding down operations after four years in business. Online shopping at theoutset.com has ended, though existing orders will still be processed. If you're hoping to snag a last bottle, it may be worth checking retailers that carried the line, including Sephora, Nordstrom and Goop, while any remaining stock lasts. "After an incredible journey, The Outset has made the decision to wind down operations," the brand shared in a statement. "We're so grateful to everyone who welcomed us into their routines and supported us along the way." Johansson, 41, co-founded The Outset in 2022 with beauty and fashion executive Kate Foster. The actress said at the time that her mother sparked her love of self-care when she was a teenager, and that she had stepped back from previous beauty deals to create something that felt true to her. The brand also experienced changes behind the scenes in recent years. Foster stepped down in April 2025, according to Business of Fashion . The Outset joins a growing list of star-backed beauty brands that have closed, including Kim Kardashian's KKW Beauty, Drew Barrymore's Flower Beauty and, more recently, Gwen Stefani's GXVE Beauty. Flower Beauty closed in 2025 after 13 years, while GXVE reportedly stopped selling through Sephora earlier this year. A famous founder can generate immediate attention, but turning that recognition into lasting customer loyalty is another challenge. In an increasingly crowded beauty market, celebrity recognition alone doesn't guarantee that shoppers will keep coming back. The Outset has not publicly provided a reason for its decision to close. For longtime customers who loved the brand's streamlined skincare approach, the immediate question is where to find their favorite products. Although shopping directly through The Outset has ended, some products may remain available through third-party retailers while supplies last. I'd stock up now before finding them marked up on reseller sites. This story was originally published by Parade on Oct 2, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
