The Standard Bank data breach has deepened after a threat actor claimed to have stolen 1.2TB of client data and begun leaking it online, reports Cape {town} Etc . MyBroadband reported that the hacker, using the name ‘ROOTBOY’ , said they spent “just over three weeks” inside the bank’s systems before moving the data out. Standard Bank has confirmed that a limited set of client credit card details, including card numbers and expiry dates, appeared to have been leaked. The bank said, ‘We are communicating directly with those clients and proactively replacing their cards as a precaution. CVV numbers are not impacted.’ It also said client names, ID numbers, company registration numbers, phone numbers, email addresses and account numbers were affected in the wider breach. TechCentral reported that the stolen information now appears to have been published online, marking a further escalation in the incident. The publication also reported that Standard Bank is cooperating with authorities and has not said how many clients are affected. Customers have been urged to update banking passwords, enable biometric authentication on the mobile app and watch for suspicious activity.
