Sanjay Dutt announced that 'Khalnayak Returns' will be a 'fresh interpretation' of the original film, starring Madhuri Dixit Nene, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, and Rakhee Gulzar. The film follows two police officers, Ram and Ganga, as they attempt to apprehend the escaped criminal Ballu. Sanjay Dutt acquired the rights to 'Khalnayak' and described it as a long-cherished dream to revive the film’s legacy. He thanked Ghai and Mukta Arts for the opportunity. The film is set to be produced with Jyoti, Jio Studios, and Aksha as partners.
