Tanzania, DRC Deepen Trade, Mining Ties

Zanzibar — Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed to deepen cooperation in mining, trade, investment, infrastructure, peace, and security. President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced the agreement after talks with DRC President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo at State House in Zanzibar. She emphasized expanding cooperation in mining by sharing expertise in mineral exploration, processing, value addition, and marketing to maximize economic benefits from natural resources and foster investment and trade. Strengthened cooperation in peace and security was also highlighted as crucial for economic development and regional integration. Tanzania, as a close partner of the DRC, is ready to collaborate with Kinshasa to enhance economic links, trade, and infrastructure. The Kalemie-Manono road project was noted as a key initiative to improve transport links, boosting connectivity and economic activity across East and Central Africa. Both countries agreed to remove trade barriers, improve border services, and support private sector participation in emerging opportunities. The discussions mark a new chapter in Tanzania-DRC relations, building on longstanding ties and strategic partnerships to drive regional integration, peace, and economic growth.
