HYDERABAD: Telangana records a sharp rise in tax collections in April, with GST revenue jumping 35% year-on-year to ₹4,621 crore, the highest ever for a single month. This surpasses the previous record of ₹4,231 crore in March and marks a 35% increase from ₹3,433 crore in April last year, adding nearly ₹1,188 crore. Commercial taxes in April total ₹7,570 crore, a 22% increase from the same month last year. Central GST accounts for ₹2,092 crore, State GST ₹2,527 crore, and Integrated GST ₹2,562 crore. Telangana ranks second in tax growth rate, behind Karnataka. Commissioner of Commercial Taxes M. Raghunandan Rao attributes the rise to higher consumption, improved purchasing power, industrial and service sector growth, and anti-tax-evasion measures. Experts note business-friendly policies attracted fresh investments, boosting employment and spending. National GST collections also hit record levels in April, with gross collections of ₹2,42,702 crore (8.7% increase), domestic transactions at ₹1,85,122 crore, and imports rising 25.8% to ₹57,580 crore. Net GST collections after refunds stood at ₹2,10,909 crore (7.3% increase). Maharashtra leads in revenue, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Growth rates: Punjab 66%, Haryana 58%, Tamil Nadu 46%. Telangana’s domestic GST growth is 12.6%, above the national average.
