Sameer Khan Updated Mon, October 12, 2026 at 4:07 AM UTC Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream face backlash over their 3,500-seat arena for the WNBA Finals. After booking their spot in the 2026 WNBA Finals, Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream were reportedly hoping to continue playing their home playoff games at State Farm Arena. However, their efforts have so far been unsuccessful, as the arena is already booked. Barring a change, Games 3, 4, and 6 (if necessary) of the Finals against the Golden State Valkyries are expected to be played at the Dream’s Gateway Center Arena, which holds just 3,500 fans, far below State Farm Arena’s roughly 17,000-seat capacity. The discouraging update prompted widespread outrage across the WNBA world. WNBA World Reacts to Angel Reese, Dream’s Arena Dilemma Ahead of WNBA Finals According to USA Today’s Meghan L. Hall, scheduling conflicts involving two Atlanta Hawks regular-season games and a concert have left Reese and Co. stuck with Gateway Center Arena. Fans took note of the Dream’s reported attempts to move their Finals home games, expressing their disappointment on X. Sports columnist Ann Killion urged the league to address the issue, writing , “The WNBA has to fix this: right now Atlanta home games in the Finals will be at Gateway Center, capacity 3500. State Farm is booked.” In a separate tweet, Killion suggested rescheduling one of the Hawks’ games: “One obvious solution is to push the Hawks game on the 24th back from 5 to 7:30. Start the WNBA game earlier. Have a day/night doubleheader.” One league observer called out the Hawks’ owners, saying , “Move the HAWKS games. This is such [expletive]. Even if you couldn’t move the concert, moving the two Hawks games does more than enough. State Farm and the Hawks owners/organization are lame as [expletive] for this.” Another fan expressed shock at the limited capacity of Gateway Center Arena, exclaiming , “Capacity WHAT?!?!” One fan questioned the optics of the Dream playing at Gateway Center Arena after the Valkyries’ home games at Chase Center, writing , “OMG! Yes, I get the Gateway Center was Atlanta’s home this year, BUT the optics will be horrendous. Going from Ballhalla to the Gateway Center is NOT the way.” League observer Todd Roman also worried about the perception of the Dream playing in the Finals in a smaller arena, noting , “Can only imagine the haters ripping on the league because Atlanta has to play their Finals games in a minor league-sized arena.” New York Liberty beat reporter Myles Ehrlich chimed in, saying , “This is a bummer. The Dream (and their fans) deserve better.” “We literally playing in a high school gym for the Finals, this is not okay,” one fan stressed . MORE: Fans React to Angel Reese ‘Manifesting’ a WNBA Finals Run With Prophetic 3-Word Message Reese and the Dream have gone undefeated in the playoffs so far, sweeping the Washington Mystics in the first round and the New York Liberty in the semifinals. Reese has played a key role in Atlanta’s postseason run, averaging 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.2 blocks through five games. The Dream’s success has drawn major attention, but the team might have to wait until next season to fully capitalize on it. Atlanta has an agreement in place to play all 25 of its home games at State Farm Arena next season. For now, it must prepare to face the Valkyries at Chase Center in Game 1 of the Finals on Saturday.
