Toronto's Exhibition Place, a hub for major events, is on the cusp of a significant transformation. The Exhibition Place Board of Governors has endorsed a new "Vision Plan" that seeks to turn the 192-acre waterfront site into a cohesive and connected space for both locals and visitors.
The plan focuses on improving connectivity, including better transit access through the future Ontario Line, stronger links to the waterfront, and upgrades to make navigating the grounds seamless. A proposed Nexus Park and Festival Plaza would offer tens of thousands of square feet of flexible space, capable of hosting over 20,000 people.
"By evolving Exhibition Place from a collection of venues into an interconnected campus, the plan is designed to reduce pressure on city streets, support Toronto's growing festival and events sector, and strengthen the city's position as a global destination," said Don Boyle, Chief Executive Officer of Exhibition Place.
Existing attractions like the Food Building and market area would also receive a refresh, with a focus on making them consistent destinations rather than seasonal stops. The plan has been endorsed "in principle", and city officials will now explore funding, logistics, and timelines, alongside public consultations to shape the future of the space.
The overall cost of the vision would unfold through a series of long-term initiatives, with individual components moving through the City's planning and approval processes before implementation. If successful, Exhibition Place could become a true all-season hotspot, evolving from a once-in-a-while destination into a vibrant year-round space.
