Tour of Britain Women brings sunshine, crowds and national spotlight to Llanidloes

Hundreds of spectators lined the streets of Llanidloes on Saturday morning as the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women rolled out of town under glorious sunshine. Great Oak Street was packed with cycling fans, families, and curious onlookers ahead of the start of stage four, which took riders through the Elan Valley before finishing in Hay-on-Wye. Theresa Jones, born and raised in Rhayader, described the event as wonderful, noting its significance as it passed through both her hometown and Rhayader. She praised the weather and the excitement generated in the lead-up. Kathy and Ollie Edwards, along with family members, also attended, expressing pride in the event’s positive impact on Llanidloes. While some residents, like Rob, noted minor logistical issues, the overall atmosphere was one of enjoyment and anticipation. The event’s success sparked hopes for more major sporting events in the future.
