Train and bus users will have reminders to keep Singapore clean in Public Hygiene Council campaign

SINGAPORE – Public transport users will be reminded to help keep Singapore clean as part of the Public Hygiene Council’s (PHC) 2026 campaign. A Keep Singapore Clean-themed train on the North East Line will be launched in September. Decals covering the entire cabin of all train cars will carry messages encouraging everyone to play their role to keep the country clean. Public transport was chosen due to its high daily footfall. PHC’s executive director Christina Liew announced this on August 23. Later in 2026, similar messages will appear on 10 public buses across Singapore. Liew emphasized that the campaign will reach all public transport users, from young to old. The event was part of PHC’s ASEAN U.N.I.T.E initiative, which promotes environmental stewardship through clean and sustainable practices. Held at Punggol Coast Digital Village, the August 23 event included over 400 participants from ASEAN countries, who took part in a community clean-up and cultural performances. Ambassadors from these nations also attended as environmental advocates. The Keep Singapore Clean 2026 campaign began in April with a 30-second video in malls reminding shoppers to dispose of takeaway cups and food packaging. To mark PHC’s 15th anniversary, it organized a roving exhibition tracing its history and launched the Cleanliness Champions Relay, with activities in Kent Ridge Park, Newton, Chua Chu Kang, Sengkang, West Coast Park, and East Coast Park. In May, a community wall mural was installed at Little India MRT station, featuring photos of PHC partners. Senior Parliamentary Secretary Goh Hanyan stressed that good public hygiene is essential for a cleaner, healthier environment. First-time PHC volunteer Iveca Cale Villalon Ignacio, a nurse, highlighted the importance of public hygiene, noting its impact on infection control and hospital patient care. She expressed interest in future clean-up activities.
