The delivery van driver sees the small group pass and then appears to check the road and, seeing no other riders, pulls onto the road behind the breakaway group A delivery van driver was seen pulling out of a side road and out onto the course during Coppa Bernocchi (1.Pro) today, Monday, as a small breakaway was fighting to stay clear of the chasing group in the final. The driver waited for the three-man group, and the car and motorbikes with it, to pass before checking the road and pulling out onto the course. With only 40 seconds behind the two groups at the time, the driver was slotting in behind the leaders as the next group on the road was just behind. The incident illustrates the ease at which things can go wrong, with the delivery driver - perhaps unaware the race was taking place - coming out of a side turn or driveway clearly not sealed off. There were no reports it caused a crash after joining the road while the race was in the final 20km. The groups eventually merged, with the victory fought out in a sprint from a reduced bunch, won by Noa Isidore (Decathlon CMA CGM Team)., after a crash in the group just before the finish. Tommaso Dati (Team UKYO) was 2nd and when Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) was relegated from 3rd, it was Orluis Aular (Movistar Team) to took the final spot on the podium. Adam Rafferty was called up to the Jayco AlUla team for the race today, his fourth call-up of the season, and after working for the team in the early stages today, he was a non finisher. He did a shift on the front chasing down moves in the early phase of the race.
