Early adaptability contributed to India’s Galle success

Sri Lanka’s turning tracks and spinners posed a formidable test. In their first Test match in Galle, India emerged victorious. Spinner Manav Suthar, who took a maiden ten-wicket haul in his second Test, credited India’s early arrival in Sri Lanka as crucial. The team arrived on 4 August and played a three-day warm-up before the match. Suthar emphasized the importance of arriving 10 days early to adapt to the environment, pitches, and the Kookaburra ball. He practiced extensively with the ball before the match, including at nets in his home. His preparation included a stint with Warwickshire between the Afghanistan Test and the Sri Lanka Test, where he played two games. Despite being new to the team, Suthar was the most effective spinner, bowling 45.2 overs. India’s bowlers focused on accuracy and patience, knowing it would be difficult for new batters to handle the wicket. Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Suthar discussed the need for patience in bowling.
